This past summer we had 665 campers register and attend one of our summer camping events. What a blessing it is to meet each and every one of our campers. Even though it is hard for us to measure, we know camp has a lasting impact that continues to strengthen our campers even after they return home. We pray all year that our campers have taken what they learned at camp and applied the lessons to their everyday life.
Just think about all the campers that have had an experience at Lake Okoboji United Methodist Camp (LOUMC) over the past 100 plus years, are you one of them? The ripple effect that has been caused by this camp being established along the shores of West Lake Okoboji in 1915 is truly amazing! God is Good!
The Lake Okoboji United Methodist Camp has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I was a camper nearly every summer since I was in elementary school until I became a Junior Staff my Junior year in high school. Summer has never been complete without a week at camp.
As a young girl, camp was a place where I could have fun. As I got older, I started making lifelong friends and unforgettable memories. It was once I attended Teen Week that camp became a second home, and not just a place to go and have fun. It was during that time that I met so many of my friends who continue to impact my life today!
Camp has strengthened my relationship with Christ. I have gone from learning about God’s love for us, as a camper, to sharing that knowledge and love as a J-Staff. Campfire has been one of the more impactful times while at camp. Sitting around a campfire, glorifying God is truly a magical moment.
Every time I step on campus at the Lake Okoboji UM Camp, I can feel God’s presence. I hope that every kid can have the opportunity to go to camp so they too may learn about the love of God while making friends and lifelong memories.
